Ash Wednesday: Psalm 51

Have mercy on me, God, in your goodness;
through Your abundant compassion
blot out my offense.
Wash away all my guilt;
and cleanse me from my sin.
For I know my offenses;
and I see my sins always before me.
I have sinned against You alone,
and done great evil in Your sight.
You are just in your sentence,
blameless when you condemn.
For I was born guilty,
and conceived as a sinner.
Yet You insist on sincerity of heart,
So teach me wisdom in my inmost being;
cleanse me, so that I may be pure;
wash me, making me whiter than snow.
Let me hear sounds of joy and gladness;
let the bones you have crushed rejoice.
Turn Your face away from my sins;
blot out all my guilt.
Create a clean heart for me, God;
renew a steadfast spirit in me.
Do not drive me from Your presence,
nor take Your holy spirit from me;
Restore my joy in Your salvation,
and sustain a willing spirit in me.
I will teach the sinners your ways,
that they may return to you.
Rescue me from death, O God, my saving God,
that my tongue may praise your healing power.
Lord, open my lips;
my mouth will proclaim your praise.
For you do not desire sacrifice;
and would not accept a burnt offering.
Thus my sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit;
do not spurn a broken, humbled heart.

A life not in vain
I am the end, I am beginning life anew
My soul is free from weakness
Free
Refined as gold
A standard to be met by all
As we embrace righteousness, we embrace life
Purified, united. set aside from the majority
I will serve as an example to man as hope
By defending those I love with my life
I stand here bold and strong
As a testament to my abstinence
My heart is open; this slate is clean.
